Musk: “We’re testing the Trump Card visa to make sure the system works properly.” Public rollout to begin “once it is fully tested.”
Elon Musk confirmed Sunday that the Trump administration’s $5 million Gold Card has entered a testing phase before its public launch.
“We’re doing a quiet trial to make sure the system works properly,” Musk wrote on X, responding to a post about the program. “Once it is fully tested, it will be rolled out to the public with an announcement by the President.”
The tech billionaire’s confirmation marks the first official acknowledgment of the program’s active development since WIRED reported last week that the Gold Card already appears in US immigration forms, including the Global Entry application system.
President Trump has revealed his preference for rebranding the Gold Card as the “Trump Card,” explaining that “the Trump Card sells much better than the Gold Card.” In April, he displayed a physical version featuring his face to reporters aboard Air Force One.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, who oversees the program alongside Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DoGE), previously claimed on the All-In podcast that the administration had already “sold a thousand” cards, generating $5 billion in a single day. However, the administration had not yet publicly announced an official application system at that time.
Musk’s confirmation suggests testing approaches completion, and the program appears set for an imminent public launch, though the administration has not announced a specific date.
